In the ‘80s a region in Southern Italy, Apulia, has suffered from a dramatic and bloody event which has held the region hostage for 10 years: the birth of Sacra Corona Unita or SCU, the “fourth mafia”. It emerged out of nowhere, following the work of lowlife youth, often exhilarated by movies full of crime and violence and quickly rose to power.
Its bold violence, capable of acts of useless and mediaeval-like cruelty and its originality, compared to classical mafias allowed it to escape from politicians’ attention and go on unbothered.
Even now, despite all the deaths, the trials and thousands of arrests, what actually went on is still hidden under a legendary haze.
S.C.U.: the fourth mafia, is the first documentary which directly deals with the story behind this phenomenon through the testimony of Antonio Perrone, one of the most important ex-bosses in the fourth mafia and his wife Daniela. As well as testimonies from judges, journalists, law enforcement who fought against the criminal organisation.

“The director’s goal was to tell the course of SCU after years of silence, searching for the painful collective memory of families and communities which suffered the massacres and dissolution from their loved ones. And they succeeded. This is a well-done and necessary film”
